E3 2012: Nintendo announced Nintendo Land for Wii U
By: Jeff Rivera
To cap off the show at their E3 press conference this morning, Nintendo's final unveiling was Nintendo Land. The game is a collection of mini games, much like Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, and it's overall purpose is similar. Wii Sports was created for two main reasons: first, to act as a value-added pack in for the Wii, and secondly, to act as a piece of software that would demonstrate the Wii's different ways to offer unique types of gameplay.
Nintendo Land is a virtual theme park that draws from Nintendo's different franchises from their long history. The Zelda themed game offered a sword and shield training while Luigi's area offered some ghost hunting action with up to 4 simultaneous players. Reggie Fils-Aime reiterated several times that Nintendo Land will open up everybody's minds and allow them to fully grasp what potential the Wii U has.
Nintendo Land will be available at launch for the Wii U, though we still don't know what that launch date might be. The game will be on the show floor with 5 of the 12 minigames available to play, so check back for updated hands on impressions as we get them.
