New Super Mario Bros. 2 announced for 3DS

New Super Mario Bros. was a smash hit in all regions for Nintendo when it released for the Nintendo Wii. The classic Super Mario Bros. gameplay married with the frantic multiplayer made the game an instant hit, and it's continued to sell well long after its initial release date. It was a no-brainer that Nintendo would release a sequel to the game, but everybody figured it was heading to the Wii U as a launch title, so when Nintendo announced last weekend that it would be a summer release for the Nintendo 3DS, it was a bit of a surprise.
There have been four screenshots released of the game, which are shown below. We don't have an exact release date on the title, but we don know that Nintendo is aiming for an August release at this time. It will be present and playable at E3 2012, and it's sure to be among the most talked about titles for the 3DS at the show. Keep checking back regularly for updates.
