Blizzard locks the StarCraft 2 ladder for the end of season 5
By: Jeff Rivera
At the end of each season of play, Blizzard locks the StarCraft 2 online ladder. During this time, gamers can still play online as they always have, but they don't advance through the leagues or within their current division. During the ladder lock, you can still earn points towards your next season's division placement, so it's not as if any games played aren't counting.
Coinciding with the lock, Blizzard has also taken the Battle.net website down as they perform some updates. It appears that this goes beyond simple maintenance as it's down right in the middle of the day. We're not sure yet what Blizzard is adding to the site, but we've been told that it should be returning to full functionality shortly.
As season 6 starts up for StarCraft 2, we'll take a look at any map pool changes and any patches that might come through.
