Salt Lake Tribune reports that David Jaffe is leaving Eat Sleep Play

Eat Sleep Play is set to release Twisted Metal for the PlayStation 3 in just a week's time, but it looks as if David Jaffe won't be around long much longer after launch of the title as part of the Eat Sleep Play team. According to Scott Campbell, co-founder of Eat Sleep Play, David Jaffe is getting set to pursue personal projects that will appeal more to the casual space. Of Jaffe, Scott Campbell said, “He’s excited to go into the casual space as well. He’s got some projects that he’s excited about. So we’re kind of going down two separate paths.”

As for Eat Sleep Play, they suffered some layoffs today as eight employees were let go. It appears to be some downscaling, as Scott Campell has indicated that Eat Sleep Play will be transitioning from making games for consoles to making games for mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad. Speaking of cell phones and tablets, Campbell said, “It’s a platform that is in our pockets almost 24/7. It’s kind of the size and types of games we’re playing. You can certainly reach a lot more people. That’s pretty exciting for us.”

Eat Sleep Play hasn't mentioned if they will be handling ongoing support for Twisted Metal after launch or if that will be passed onto another studio, but it's pretty clear that Scott Campbell and his team are ready to exit the console space once Twisted Metal ships next week.

I'm sure we'll hear from David Jaffe soon as he clarifies where he'll be headed and what sort of projects he wants to work on. My bet is that he'll stick with console development, but more likely for smaller downloadable titles.
