Sony and AT&T announce Vita 3G data plan pricing

Despite the grumbling at E3 over Sony's partnering up with AT&T to provide 3G services to the Vita, people have been waiting to see what sort of rates Sony could negotiate for Vita owners. Well, today AT&T and Sony came out and announced what gamers will be paying per month for access to AT&T's 3G data network. There are two plans to choose from, and each plan is a monthly fee with no contract required. The first plan is the 250MB/month plan, and that will cost $14.99. The second plan is a 2GB plan, which will run $25.

As of now there is no plan that falls in the middle, so you're really going to have to decide just how much data usage you're planning on using. Of course you can always jump up to the 2GB plan from one month to the next if you need to, bu it would have been nice to see a 1GB plan in there at $19.99.

It remains to be seen how popular the 3G functionality will be on Sony's handheld, but early reports out of Japan show that consumers overwhelmingly choose the WiFi only models over the 3G-enabled version. Personally, I'll pick up the 3G version to future proof myself, but I'm not too interested in carrying a data plan with it based on what we've seen yet.
