StarCraft 2 season 4 begins

Unlike many online games, StarCraft 2 splits their multiplayer gaming up into seasons. With the start of each season, there's a ladder (leaderboard) reset and everyone needs to start again from zero. Your win count and your skill ratings are maintained, but you'll be placed in a new division after you play your placement match at the start of each season.

Along with the ladder reset, Blizzard has decided to cut down on the length of each season. Seasons will now last about 2 months. As a result of the shortened season length, placement in the Grandmaster league will only take one week to sort out rather than two.

There are two new maps, but for 2v2 matches that will replace Khaydarin Depths and Tempest. These new maps are to address some balance issues and they are named Lunar Colony V and Magma Core. The 1v1, 3v3, and 4v4 map pools will remain unchanged for now.

If you're an active StarCraft player, it's time to get out and see what league and division you'll be placed in. For players coming in from previous seasons, they need only to play a single placement match. For brand new players, they'll still play five placement matches.

Good luck, have fun.

Looking forward to seeing if I can advance to a higher division this season.
